"Turn in the Light!"

Have you ever been awakened in the middle of the night and found that the power had failed? Have you ever found yourself lost and stranded on a dark road without a flashlight? If you have ever experienced either of these scenarios or countless other situations where darkness is involved, you recognize the importance of light.
The dim glow of a night light can comfort a frightened child, because the light exposes their surroundings and eases their fears. Finding a flash light during a storm can calm heightened anxieties in a flash, no pun intended.
As humans we don’t normally like to be kept in the dark literally or figuratively. How many times has a secret been revealed to you and you find yourself upset because you have been “kept in the dark” about a matter?
Just as we need light in the natural we need it in the spiritual as well. Christ left us a never ending source of light for our lives. Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The writer here recognized that God’s word is the ultimate light of life. It is a source of power that is not easily extinguished.
We should already know that Jesus is the light of the world. He came to give light to blinded eyes spiritually as well as naturally. Until He returns it is up to His followers to be illumination for the world to see.
As Christians and born again believers we cannot be afraid to be the light needed in our society today. Daily many are stumble around in the darkness of depression and despair searching for a source of light to bring relief.
Luke 8:16 says, “No man when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lamp stand, that those who enter may see the light.” Knowing the power and importance of literal light, let us remember that when it comes to our spiritual light.
We may be the only illumination our friends, co-workers or family members see. Let’s make sure that our light is on and shining brightly for all who may need to know that they don’t have to live in darkness. Offer someone your light by witnessing and testifying of Christ’s promises and the goodness of God’s word.
Let your light shine. (Turn it on!)
Think about it.
